There is something amiss here and I don't quite know how to even describe my concern. McVay is -if anything-not stupid. One of the more intelligent coaches we've seen in a long, long time. If he knows his qb is off and he can only win with Gurley then I cannot imagine him not running "the beast". There are only a few explanations that come to mind: 1) the tailback is really not up to par and maybe that ankle is not healed. 2) the O line is-for what ever reason-not giving Gurley the openings he needs and McVay knows it and can't risk a season on Gurley being more seriously injured. 3) Gurley really isn't that good when it comes to breaking tackles and needs large holes to blast through which don't come often playing a great defensive team like the Bears.
Who knows but one thing I do know is that admissions by a coach smart as MvVay is -well- I can't take it as totally valid. Yes-he's young but he's not stupid young. His post game admission about not running more plays for the tailback is to me a simple dodge from what really may be an issue. . He's too brilliant to be that off when it comes to gaining home field advantage through the playoffs.
