If you're right and McVay was actually concerned early on, this may explain why he took Gurley out of the game.
My observation of McVay is that, while he is often an offensive genius with scheming, he gets rattled as a coach and starts making bad decisions that lead to being unbalanced.
It's probably because he's young. Hopefully that's it. But the fix is not as simple as looking at some film and correcting things.
Being poised and not being rattled easily are internal character traits. IOW, this may not be about knowledge of the game; it may be about who he is as a person...for the time being. That is, until he reaches a higher level of maturity.
