Rampage2K-
Not really the point, zn.
Point is teams see what McVay has done and want the same results with an energetic young coach who is imaginative with the offense.
You can point out all those old guys who were quick with the turnarounds and all that other stuff you want...not really the point here.
McVay took the WORST offense in the league and turned them into the BEST offense in the league in his first year.
The Rams have been around 80+'years and have never had back to back 11 win seasons...McVay did it in his first two years as a 32 year old HC.
Good luck to all those teams trying to capture that.
We don't know what teams "see." That would take a level of mindreading we don't have. I assume instead that NFL professionals know when a team already has a critical mass of talent they can win with or when they are in a rebuild situation. I assume that because it's very reasonable to assume that. So I doubt team execs actually believe that you can find a coach that can turn a team lacking the right level of talent into an overnight success.
McVay took one of the most talented and promising rosters in the league and, since he's a good coach working with a good GM, added some parts (primarily LOT and receiver) and won with it. Look me in the eye and tell me with a straight face that he would have won in year one without a qb, a star RB, Donald, and a group of others including Saffold. What would have happened if they were in a rebuild situation and had to find a top qb (like Warner), a top RB (like Faulk), top OL talent (like Timmerman and Pace) and so on? Do you really think they win in year 1 if that were the situation? Vermeil was in that situation and it took him 3 years.
The mistake some made when discussing this last time was to assume that saying any of that is a put down of McVay. It's no more a put-down of McVay than it is a put-down of Vermeil to say it took 3 years to get that roster. So I am hoping this time around no one makes that mistake again. No one said you don't need the coach or that McVay is not a top one (I have said for a long time now that McVay is the best Rams coach I know outside of Vermeil and he can surpass Vermeil).
Really, if you don't already have at least a Goff, Gurley, and Donald (and there's more) AND have to find them, you're in Vermeil's situation, and he took 3 years.
.....
So Fisher just needed one more year and we'd be the best offense in the NFL two years in a row and 11+ wins the last two years with all that talent we had?
Interesting......
We all admit there was talent on this team, but it took someone like McVay to maximize it. This is the second or third media guy who's saying the same things.
McVay is going to get people fired because like Cowherd said "greatness brings clarity" and NFL's owners want to try and replicate that...that's all.
We can disagree it's fine
