The sky is not falling. We are fine.
I agree 100%.
In a week where we get a tough win, remain as the only undefeated team, and the defense plays pretty well, I was very surprised about the intensity of negativity.
I'm not surprised when flaws are pointed out win or lose, but I was specifically surprised with what felt like a pretty intense tone of alarm.
I saw no tone of alarm or alerts that the sky was falling.
I saw what is unfortunately a kind of typical back and forth.
Some said, these were flaws.
Others said, stop criticizing (I can link you).
The first group said, naw they were flaws.
Others said, we're a winning team don't criticize.
The first group said, naw there were flaws.
The the others said, quit saying the sky is falling.
And...no one ever said it was.
....
In your reenaction of the back and forth, my sense was the people who said there were flaws were saying that there were horrific, nearly fatal flaws.
There were expressions of hatred of the game.
Calling out the coach
Lowered expectations for the season
Maybe it's just how it struck me because I didn't get to watch the game live so when I read the board, if I hadn't known that we had won, I would have sworn that we lost by 30.
You're right. No one ever said the sky was falling. And when I say I was surprised by the negativity it was not a specific thing anyone said. It was just the tone I felt.
I sure didn't get from the tone of the board that we were the only remaining undefeated team and that the D had actually played pretty well.
I am one of those pointing out situational playcalling flaws.
And with both my own posts and my fellow travelers, I had no, got no, felt no, intended no, saw no feeling that this was alarmist stuff.
I think you misread the thing about lowered expectations for the season. No one said, because of this game, my expectations for the season are lower. It was actually very different from that. What WAS said in the original post in that thread anyway was that the poster did not see the flaws as all that big a deal because they didn't expect a superbowl anyway. That's very different from what you apparently saw in that.
Calling out the coach is fine...doesn't mean anyone is calling for his head.
I can imagine a game where Goff throws 3 INTs that were his fault but they won anyway. And I would say, those 3 INTs were his fault. Doesn't mean I changed my idea of who or what he is, just calling that one thing the way I see it. And that would (if things go according to typical fashion) be responded to by some who would say no they aren't his fault when (in the case of my hypothetical anyway) they clearly were. Or why are you criticizing, we won. Or, Goff is too a good qb, back off.
Saying that McVay showed some situational tonedeafness in that game is to me just an accurate realistic description of what happened on certain plays.
Speaking just for myself now, IF it continued for game after game and cost them games, then I would say, it's a damaging flaw he has to fix.
Right now all I said was that in this game he had that flaw.
I said it because I thought it was true.
And then...there's wading through the over-reactions to it having been said.
