Looked to me like Denver covered the Ram receivers tighter than any team so this year. Might have had a lot to do with Goff's off day.
He was also without his safety net (Kupp) most of the second half.
I agree, that's what I was seeing. I couldn't figure out how Denver was doing that. Additionally, Denver was tearing our OL up in the passing game with what seemed like some consistency. If there was pressure and Goff tried to slide the other way it was usually into someone's waiting arms (Denver seems very disciplined in how they rush). Goff often had very little time and as I watched closely it wasn't that he was rattled, it was a combination he didn't have time and/or no one was open.
Now Goff was off on a few passes (I believe he was wearing a glove which I don't think he does usually). But I also noticed that some passes were intentionally off. A deep pass to Cooks was purposely overthrown because Cooks was covered but Goff threw it trying to draw a PI. A short pass to Gurley behind the line was not on target because had Goff put it on the numbers Gurley would have been lit up behind the line, and Goff had to get rid of it. He tried to throw Reynolds open on one pass but Reynolds decided to stay in the chest of the defender. So I don't think it was so much play calling as much as it was Denver was prepared and ABLE to shut down our passing game which involved schooling our #1 offensive line in pass pro and staying glued to our receivers...at least that is what I thought I was seeing. If I was seeing correctly I'm really interested in knowing how they did that.
Now, in the run game we were monsters, no luck involved there, we didn't look good, we looked unstoppable. That was fun. And our defense played the run so much better yesterday they looked like a different team, very disciplined. But I saw some terrible tackling, WOW! Hill got burned on a couple of go routes for big yardage. And be honest, is our D-Line getting held big time or does it just appear that way. Donald often looks like he's getting pulled to the ground. I don't know. But we don't get pressure...Denver got the kind of pressure that I thought we would be applying this year, and Denver did it against our O-Line. Just some observations.
