Re: There's plenty of evidence that it's a trend...

Firstly, we really can't be sure about this years crop of QB's.

Secondly, that is a very, very short time to predict that it's a new trend.

It's far more likely to be a hiccup if the last 40 years are anything to go by.

You're right that we don't know it's a trend for sure but there are many signs that it is.

40 years isn't the most relevant thing anymore. 20 years, even 10 years history is more informative.

20 years ago a St. Louis Rams coach changed the game and NFL offenses.

Since that time, it became a passing league, wide open offenses...

And now we have innovative coaches and coordinators that are borrowing liberally from the college game.

McVay, Pederson and others are continuing to push the game that direction. Rule changes are helping do that too.

With elements of the college game coming in, it opens things up for more college style QBs.

Air raid QBs, the running QBs - both things that used to not have any success - are now being successful.

That means more QBs are qualified to be NFL players.

I don't see it suddenly going backwards. It's a trend for the foreseeable future.

So Faulk wasn't an elite RB because he never topped the league in yards
