I agree. When they drafted Barkley after signing Solder to play LT and also then drafted Hernandez at guard I thought they could be set up to bounce back to 8-8 or even 9-7. If they did not like the QBs that much and felt Manning could be better with an improved supporting cast then it was a logical choice. Seems they were wrong about Manning. But their cupboard is not bare. And they may be the only team picking in the top 10-12 with an obvious QB need.
You make a very good point that most of the teams that look like they'll be picking early don't need a QB.
In addition, even if the Giants are picking in the 8-10 range, they can trade up if they see a worthy franchise QB. We moved from much further down than that to get Goff, the Eagles moved from much further down to get Wentz, and it was obviously worth it for both teams.
