As good as Gurley is, I would be kicking myself if the Rams passed over Goff for him. So if Darnold eventually becomes a franchise level QB then no way and RB including Jim Brown would be worth it. Maybe 20 or 30 years ago that would have been different but not today. A great QB = winning. Not saying the a great RB doesn't make a significant impact its just that a franchise QB makes a much more significant one.
So do you take the risk for a franchise QB when you have a good shot at getting a RB who can make an instant impact?
I think there is no question that the franchise QB is more important but another factor is the rareness of the player.
How often does a Barkley come around in the draft? What about a Darnold?
In this current climate, it seems there are 2-3 potential elite QBs coming out every year. OTOH, you have to go back to 2015 (Gurley and Gordon) to find that caliber of RB.
So maybe the risk isn't that high passing on a Darnold. You just draft the next potential franchise QB, who may be every bit as good as Darnold, the next year.
