More of the same for Jared Goff in 2017 might well have ruined him.
I will say this. The Rams took care of Goff in a way that they never did for Sam Bradford.
And I credit the leadership at the very top for that.
They took care of the OL for Bradford. That's one reason PFF ranked the 2013 OL 3th (I take PFF rankings as "ballpark," as in I don't care if they're exactly 13th....they were a decent line.) It's one of the few years where they OL did not have long injury epidemics. And that 2013 OL, the last effective one they had before 2017 (and the only effective one they had since 2010), started 4 guys who were not even on the team at the end of 2011.
Having said that when it got to Goff in 2016, they needed to upgrade and swapping GR for AW was a very good move. It's rare that you get an effective starting LOT in free agency but they took advantage of the Bengals's mistake and jumped on it.
It's another example of this era Rams ability to be opportunistic. Whitworth is out there, grab him. Same with Suh. Same with trading for Peters. And so on. Seize the day.
