Because he's cheap and so are RTs.

He would have done better to extend Chandler.

Remember this is a team that lost a superbowl because its defense couldn't stop Nick Foles.

Meanwhile his OL didn;t protect Brady when it counted against a top DL.

Naw that's not much of an argument. I laid it out. He's cheap and doesn't extend players that cost. ROTs are cheap.

The Rams assumed he was wrong about Cooks.

Cards assumed he was wrong about Chandler.

But he can pay for an average at best ROT.

Just not a compelling argument.

This discussion reminds me of one on a different board about whether the Rams need to improve in the redzone. It has the same kind of "feel" to it. Including things like "lols" etc.

The argument here is about perspective. There is no proof that your perspective on managing the CAP is better than Belichick's. Its just an opinion. Yet you appear to state it as fact. Now, if you don't believe your statements on this subject are fact, then I stand corrected.

But BB's approach to the cap is to dump high-priced players, and he will extend modestly priced ones. Rams approach is very different. They build in the high-priced stars like Gurley, Cooks, and Donald.

If your argument held, then the Rams are wrong in how they approach the cap because they do the opposite of BB.

Except when it comes to extending Hav. According to the BB approach, you don't trade for Cooks and extend him, and you don't extend Gurley and Donald.

In other words, trying to do the "ah but coach knows better" routine on this issue is all out of context and doesn't apply.

The Rams can't afford to extend a player who is more replaceable and is just solid, precisely because unlike BB they DO extend and keep a core of high-priced stars. It means they have to be more selective longterm when it comes to how many extensions they hand out.

Thats actually a very logical comparison.

Its not that BBs way is better or worse, which is where the tone in this discussion started, its that its different.

Thats fair.

But it also means that we can't say BB was WRONG about Cooks or Jones, we should say that it is consistent with his method which has yielded extraordinary success. But there is another method that could work which is closer to the Eagles method using the rookie salary QB and paying 30% of their CAP on 4 players.
