Agreed. Moreover, I bet his recall isn't *that* unusual among that small fraternity of coaches who are living/breathing this stuff. Grand Master-level chess players have encyclopedic memories for moves from games years earlier. Professional tennis players can recreate point sequences from 5-set matches.
If McVay is unusual in this regard compared to other coaches, I'd guess it has more to do with his youth and the advantage it confers in terms of memory capacity than anything else.
