Goff, and others, have hinted at “new wrinkles” that have been put in. And I suspect that they are referring to much more than just the Cooks addition.

Wade has flat stated that the league is not ready for AD/Suh to be unleashed. And heaven knows that he has other new toys to play with.

When considered in that light, perhaps McVay’s desire to keep starters off the field to minimize revealing anything new kinda makes more sense. Maybe.
