I think our team is 'set'... player-wise. Like every other team in the NFL, even the greatest team's in NFL history, some positions are a bit weaker than you'd like... that's football. The point is: Are they strong enough across the board, with enough 'excellent' players in key positions... to be among the best in 2018... and I believe they are.
I, too, believe that the Rams are pretty much “set” at all 25 of the starting positions, Jimmy. Certainly compared to years past.
And depth looks adequate at most of those positions, too.
But, while losing a starter at most other positions would be survivable, backup QB is different.
One of 4 RB’s.
One of 6 WR’s.
One of 10 OL.
One of 4 TE’s.
Might be tough, but probably doable. Especially if only for 3-4 games.
But if Goff goes down and either of Mannion or Allen has to fill in? Gulp...
This is like a pick your poison dilemma. There will always be some worry or weakness in NFL roster management.
The kind of backup QB that you guys want is very expensive. IMO, with a few exceptions, if any contenders starting QB gets inured for any lengthy period of time, that team will not win.
The exception was the Eagles this last year with Foles. That caliber of backup costs $12M plus. Case Keenum costs $18M now.
So what do we want? A Foles/Keenum type backup QB and no Suh or Talib or go with the star defender and no high quality backup QB.
It's tough to have it all.
