I would:
- Cut preseason down to two weeks (three if you insist on a separate week with just Hall of Fame game)
- Add two weeks to the regular season
- One additional game for each team
- One additional bye for each team
Get two more weeks of real football, teams get an additional week to heal up midseason, preseason gets shortened. I just don't see any downside in this - you don't even have to move the playoff dates.
Bonus: And I wouldn't really, but I would like to find a way to make the Patriots play an NFL schedule. The last NFL power ranking showed BUF and NYJ at 31 and 32. And guess who gets to play 4 games against these bottom dwellers of the NFL? I doubt MIA ends up being even a top 20 team. So the Patriots essentially get 6 freebies by playing in the fluffiest division in football.
