I'll do the documented research. But now FFB calls.
We know about the current coaches because their players are in the stat sheets. Parcells...well, I knew some of his players and I live in Dallas so trust me when I say they played in preseason game 2.
As for Gruden, others like him more than I do so I won't comment on him.
All I did is respond to you listing out coaches I respect and feel know a lot about what it takes to win.
I don't think you're following the argument.
Who else has played starters in ps game 2? McVay. Last year.
What's the difference between last year and this year? The game 2 opponent is also the week 1 regular season opponent.
Under those conditions both head coaches didn't play starters.
Does that mean they never will? No.
This has NOTHING to do with whether or not you play starters in the pre-season...it only has to do with whether you play starters in the preseason IF you're playing the same team that is your week 1 regular season opponent. Now here's what you have to check with Parcells.
DID PARCELLS EVER PLAY THE STARTERS IN PS GAME 2 WHEN THE OPPONENT WAS THE TEAM THEY WOULD PLAY IN WEEK 1 OF THE REGULAR SEASON?
I will save you the trouble.
Virtually no coach has been in those circumstances before, if any ever have in the modern era.
So odds are great, no, Parcells never had to make that decision because he was never in those circumstances.
We do know that one veteran head coach, Gruden, made the same decision
under these circumstances that McVay did.
