and that's it. However, whenever a QB throws a deep ball and the WR starts slowing down and gathering his feet to time a jump for the ball...that's not how those plays should look. The ball is to be placed out in front/hung out beyond the finger tips so that the WR can accelerate INTO the ball coming down to earth.
That way, usually, only the WR has a chance to get hands on it.

NOTE: these are highlights from Peres college junior year...
Peres highlightslook at how the pases are nearly all just beyond the WR forcing him to
speed up...into the reception...that's how it's supposed to be. imo
Peres has a KWarner arm...Mannion's arm is stronger...but Peres throws on time and knows his limitations...while Mannion does not. imo

throwing jump balls that allow the DB to even get his hands on the ball are
not how QBs are taught ball placement unless they are throwing fades or back shoulder passes...and even those are usually only for WRs of tall stature who -odds are-would win those 50-50 balls most of the time...
but still...don't you want better odds than 50/50 when trying to complete a pass?! Hell, it's hard enough. It like throwing an out route..it's to be thrown low and away towards the sideline so that only the WR can get it....and how many are throw a slight step behind and the CB is allowed to get a finger on the ball?!
I'm an ex-QB and so maybe it's just me...but that's how I see it. Why would I be throwing jump balls to Hodge? why not throw an easier ball for him to catch? Or, if he's covered don't throw to him at all and find someone else. A bad pass is always forgiven if it works out...just ask Brett Farvre!!
However, in the film room the QBs will be admonished for the behind the scenes even if it's successful....cuz odds are it won't be in the future.
50/50% jump balls are not good odds for an offense...in a game of inches....catch % matter just as much!! just my opinion
