Jared Goff enjoyed quite the turnaround from Year 1 to his sophomore season in the NFL, going from one of the worst starting quarterbacks to a Pro Bowler with 28 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.

Some of that is a credit to the job Sean McVay did with the young QB, but Goff did plenty himself to earn the title of being a Pro Bowler. He also earned the respect of players around the league and in the Rams locker room, but Jalen Ramsey isn’t particularly high on the former Cal Bear.

In an interview with GQ where he shares his thoughts on just about every NFL quarterback, Ramsey commented on Goff’s game. He, like many others, believe McVay has a lot to do with his success, while also saying Goff reminds him of another NFC West quarterback.

“Jared Goff, he’s average to above average,” Ramsey said. “He reminds me of Jimmy Garoppolo a little bit. Year one, he wasn’t good. He wasn’t even good enough to earn his own starting role. Like, if you the number one pick, you expected to start now. Period. He wasn’t ready to do that. He wasn’t able to do that. Then when he did get in, he didn’t really do that good.”

Fair enough. Goff was not good in his first season, as is the case with many rookie quarterbacks. He struggled behind a paltry offensive line, had very few weapons to speak of and was in an offense that didn’t afford him the chance to succeed.

Then McVay came along and everything changed.

“But in his second year, they got a new offensive coordinator. Your offensive coordinator is just your Brainiac,” Ramsey continued. “When we played them, it felt like his offensive coordinator was drawing up perfect plays and then he was hitting the open man. For what his team ask him to do, yeah, he’s good.”

He’s good! Jalen Ramsey thinks Jared Goff is good!

Well, for what McVay asks him to do, at least. Still, it’s better than what Ramsey said about a lot of other quarterbacks. He called Josh Allen “trash,” couldn’t remember Matt Ryan’s name, said Ben Roethlisberger is “decent at best” and Joe Flacco, well, “he sucks.”
