I assume you're using PTS as the metric for top 10 D.
I have no idea what this really means but the Pats were 7th in PTS, but they were 30th in yards. The Pats only gave up 1 more point than the Eagles did all year.
I guess they're a top 10 D, but they sure don't look it when you watch them.
I generally do both yards and points. But I fudged it with SD. They were 3rd in points and 15th in yards but I let them sneak in.
I put the Patz with teams like the Packers and Saints. Prolific offenses built around great qbs, but not impressive on D. The offense alone however makes them contenders. Here is them numbers. For GB I went back to 2016.
Patz:
D = 5th points, 29th yards
O = 2nd points, 1st yards
Saints
D = 10th points, 17th yards
O = 4th points, 2nd yards
Packers (2016)
D = 21st points, 22nd yards
O = 4th points, 8th yards
...
The question is how does a team give up so many yards and so few points.
The Pats were able to do that but the Packers weren't. They both have elite QBs. So it not that.
