At the end of the show today on NFL Live, Jeff Darlington threw his challenge flag at AD.
To surmise, he Says AD needs to sit back and really think twice about the "very very lucrative" offer the Rams have on the table. The narrative will soon change and the fans will turn.
I just looked into my clairvoyant ball and I was finally able to definitively determine that the "very very lucrative" offer is for the amount of....
$18.9 Million per year, $60M guaranteed! It makes him the second highest paid defender in the league!
Should he sign? Is he greedy if he wants more?
As for the narrative changing, when have the fans not been on management's side? A narrative change would be good news for AD! (actually I'm not sure why the narrative matters at all.)
Where did you come up with that ???
Most of the talk lately is that it would make him the highest paid defensive player in the entire NFL.
I'm guessing it's more in the $20-22 M per year range with $70-80m guaranteed and that's still not enough for Donald's agent.
Your two key words are,
"I'm guessing".
We're all guessing. That's my point. You're helping reinforce it.
An offer of $18.9M has a solid factual basis. Lets look:
Franchise tag for 3 years = $56.7M. Average that over 3 years and you get $18.9M
So does that offer have some reasonable and factual financial basis? check
Does that offer fit Demoff's statement of "among the highest paid defenders"? check
Does it fit the "Very very lucrative" language? check
Does it fit the "competitive offer" language? check
Does it fit the "make him the highest paid defensive player in the entire NFL" language? Very close to that.
I think I see your point. I think what you're doing is pointing out that an offer of 18.9 M meets all the vague criteria established for what qualfiies in some minds as a "lucrative offer." That reinforces the fact that without real numbers we actually don't know.
But to drive that point home, let me ask directly---do you regard 18.9 M as an adequate offer to the best defender in the league in 2018?
Yeah it can look that way to Darlington, and without numbers we can't know if that's right. BUT do YOU think 18.9 is an adequate offer to this player in this year?
You guys are kidding yourselves if you really think that an offer like that is what insiders like VB, JD, DJ, AS, SW etc are referring to.
Guaranteed it's no less then $20M per year.....
I know I keep bringing it up but here's why I hesitate to say that I KNOW the offer is $20M+ per year: The JJ negotiation.
All of us were sure the Rams were offering over $10M that year. There were whispers and reports of very good offers. And then we were in shock when we heard the top offer was $9M and JJ was insulted.
I don't assume things. But if I did, it's not gonna be that the team is making some great offer.
The insiders are guessing like the rest of us. Their language gives that away. And you know they're getting their info from the Rams right? Their reports aren't making AD look good so we know it didn't come from his side.
I take one-sided mouthpiece reports with a bucket full of salt. There's only one guarantee here: neither you or I know what the offer is. We're all guessing.
As you pointed out when it first got posted, there's also an "inside" account from an agent's perspective, and chances are his source of what little info he offers is the agents. I quote that piece in this thread.
Some people act as if the only report out there is VB's, which as you point out is written from a management perspective.
But there are 2 separate and distinct reports, including the agent-perspective one I just mentioned.
The 2 reports contradict one another in some key ways.
Believing one report over the other is always just on the believer.
The truth is as you say, we actually do not know anything. Or what we know is vague and contradictory.
...
Think that is where you were missing the boat. Vinny and many others are not giving management perspective, they're giving reports of what they have heard .
I have yet to hear one report from Aaron Donald camp saying that those reports are false, also you are just referring to an agents take on what he thinks the contract should be or look like, not actually what he has heard from any insiders who would have knowledge on either side.
I tend to believe that people like Vinny and Andrew know a lot more then what they can legally report and are trying to say it without saying it so to speak.... it's not weather I believe what some ex agent thinks AD is worth.
