i advocated for tagging watkins over joyner so i wanted them to keep him. however i think cooks fits better with what they want out of the position. so yes im happy. it would have been bad imo to make another trade and not get the deal done.
in terms of watkins, this is just my personal belief but i get the feeling there was just something off about him. he never really seemed to mesh with the rams/goff. i kept waiting for it to happen but it never did. its my belief that this inability to "connect" gave the rams some pause to signing watkins AND maybe watkins willingness to sign with the rams.

or the the rams misgauging the market for him? Schefter said the contract is worth $80 million over the five years – or $16 million per year – which ties Cooks at No. 4 among the highest-paid receivers in the NFL. were the rams not willing to pay watskins that amount for some reason? did they misread the market for sammy? did sammy just not want to be in la? did he not hit it off with goff? is it just that kc gave him more guaranteed money? we may never really know buts its interest ting that watkins walk, traded for cooks and signed then him to a similar contract.
This is just my opinion, PHD, of course.
The Rams just weren’t as high on Watkins as were the Chiefs. For whatever reason(s).
Certainly not for anything close to the $16 million that he received.
The board has discussed the various possible reasons at length, but the bottom line remains the same.
Maybe they had an inkling that Cooks might become available? I dunno.
Don’t know about you, but I’m very happy with the way it all worked out.
