The Rams could do that , but according to VB and other insiders, that is NOT the case...they're willing to make him the highest paid defender in the NFL,
You can't say that with any real certainty.
First off there are no "insiders." You have some league people and some reporters repeating rumors.
Second off, unless you know the figures, you cannot with any actual validity claim that any offer the Rams have out there is good enough.
For one thing "highest paid defender" could mean 19.5 M, which
would make him the highest paid, but, his market value is above that.
For another thing, in spite of the speculation from a few reporters, Demoff does NOT say he will be the highest paid defender. He says that he would be AMONG the highest paid defenders. That would average around 18 M or even less. That's even further away from his market value, which in 2018 is north of 20 M.
IMO we have to factor in what Demoff said. We're not really in the discussion unless we account for it. We also have to stop acting like VB and the handful or reporters you like on this said anything real.
Without numbers we have no idea one way or another if the Rams offer is good enough. (Along with the fact that Demoff threw water on the claim that he would be the "highest." )
If we dont know the numbers then we don't really know anything.
...
He said that because he is very smart about talking publicly about this... he could have said they are offering to make him the highest paid defender, but that would be akin to taking the negotiation public..he’s being political and showing respect, as he should be.
Take what Demoff says with a grain of salt.
I don’t think VB would say things like that publicly if he didn’t think they were true.
What is the market for DT’s??? You can’t just make up markets ... it is what it is.
Ask Leveon Bell how his contract negotiations are going....
Btw, happy 4th of July!
Sorry I just don't buy any of that. For one thing it's based on the assumption, which makes no sense to me, that Demoff would think he was accomplishing something by publicly lying about their intentions.
VB didn't say anything. He qualified all of it, and put it in terms of speculation. It's you who turned it into hard truths, not him. Making something out of VB's comments he did not say is not honoring or respecting his "truthfulness," it's misreading him.
It all amounts to this and this is inescapable, no matter how you want to construe these things to meet your own ideas.
Unless we know figures we do not know what;s really happening. You can believe what you want. But that remains the case. Unless we know figures we do not know what;s really happening.
I don't want to keep repeating that over and over but until we get info, that is where I stand. So I figure we're done...each of us knows what the other thinks.
Fair enough?
Take your own advise..... until the actual offer is made public.
Read VB's quote....it's pretty clear that he believes the
multiple reports.
“
I’ve been told by multiple people in the NFL if this was just about Aaron Donald being the highest-paid defensive player in the history of the NFL, the deal would have already gotten done. Why? Because the Rams look like they are ready to do that. It’s probably going to be $20 million plus that they end up paying him. But, what I have been told is that doesn’t appear to be all he’s looking for. He wants to not only be the highest-paid defensive player of all-time, but it looks like in talking with some people, he wants to get paid like a quarterback. A high-level quarterback.”This has made things more complicated for the Rams, who are already willing to meet him to the point of making him the highest-paid defensive player in the league. This is something that manager Les Snead already indicated would be the case earlier this offseason.
Aaron Donald, Rams
However, what has likely thrown this new wrinkle into the fold has been the lucrative contracts given to a few quarterbacks this summer. The most recent being the five-year, $150 million deal with $100 million guaranteed that the Atlanta Falcons agreed to with Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Ryan.
This has pushed the asking price higher to the point that it is simply out of the Rams’ best interests to get him under that financial number, regardless of his immense talent.
The two sides may be a bit apart at this point, but these next few weeks ahead of training camp could allow them to get on the same page to keep Donald in Los Angels for the long haul.
I tend to believe this report rather then just try to call it blasphemy because it doesn't fit your agenda.
