You don’t have to be clairvoyant, you just have to listen to the reports.
If you don’t think VB knows some inside info you are kidding yourself
The estimate is based on a low offer of $18m per year that he passed on last year. Money that is long gone that he can’t make up.
There was a discussion about it on Sirius a couple months ago with a former GM and they talked about this very subject and how much money he is giving up by not signing early...and the bad advice he has been given.
Even if it was a a low offer of say $15M per year that’s $21M left on the table if he again passes up a contract extension...and that is a LOW estimate.
Going by what has been reported by multiple sources, I’m sure it is more...much more then that.
AD will sign an extension by Aug 7 or he should fire his agent.
VB probably does know some inside info but I don't think he knows precise inside info. And no one definitely said that they offered $18M last year.
Let's say the offer was $15M per year for 6 years. That would equate to $90M between 2017-2022.
The offer has increased this year. Snead alluded to this and most reports corroborate that.
So...let's say it's sitting at $19M per year now. This would make him competitive, essentially equal, with the highest paid defender. From 2018-2022 (5 years but ending in 2022 as if he had signed earlier), that would be $95M.
Here's the part we don't know. Who's been whispering in his agent's ear about what he possibly could get?
If he's demanding in the mid $20's, is there a team willing to reset the market for him and get close? What if he could get $24M per year from someone else?
That would equate to $96M over 4 years between 2019 - 2022.
As you can see, without knowing the low which was the offer last year and the potential high, we have no idea if he's playing this wrong or right.
