Donald could very well be trying to reset the market as has been suggested in reports. Just not going to rule it out. Because we don't know. It is certainly a possibility.
It's also a possibility the Rams are lowballing him. It's why I say Demoff is up to bat. He really has to prove that he's capable of running an elite franchise and locking up big time players. There's a big difference between that and keeping a losing team well under the cap, and it's time for him to prove he can do it.
It's all going to come out soon I think, btw. Because I think that either way the media pressure will start to crack that egg if they don't come to an agreement here pretty soon. Imagine for example the Rams don't waive his $80K non-show fee for camp. I have to think at that point the reality of what's going on will hit the streets.
For some reason you take "reset the market" as possibly being excessive. I don't take it that way at all.
I didn't get anything from those reports that indicate he is in excess of what we should expect. The question is what we should expect. And as lots of discussion and various speculative reports have concluded, that's most likely north of 20 M and south of 25 M. And of course, none of that is news. Does that amount "reset the market" for non-qbs? Sure. But if he's paid in the fair and expected range that's just going to happen. Does "resetting" mean that he is making excessive demands? I don't see it that way at all---giving him (say) 22 M both re-sets the market for non-QBS AND is fair and expected and reasonable.
In terms of where each of us stands, that's probably a very minor difference. We're mostly on the same page. Maybe not the same paragraph.
I agree about what you say here about Demoff.
I think each of us just speaks from a slightly different shade of gray.
I too keep stressing that we don't really know either way.
