But the major takeaway was that Goff was being overhyped. He scoffed at the #38 ranking in the top 100 players list. He’s basically saying Goff hasn’t looked that good to him. IMO, that means last year or what he’s seen of Goff so far this off-season. You can be said to be doing very well and still not be a top QB. That’s what’s being discriminated here.
Goff is doing very well, but he’s not a top 10 QB just yet. And I think that’s fair.
He made it absolutely 100% clear that his issue was Goff not stepping up to a new level in his third year.
And frankly that means JC had expectations that were not met, which is on JC. What I saw in that is that JC forgot that Goff threw INTs in the spring and summer last year too but turns out that's not an issue. I just saw normal development in a situation where McVay is putting in more.
JC did absolutely and directly say that he was playing well, and he directly said he WASN'T saying Goff played poorly.
I think we just see it differently. To you, he's being more thorough or something and therefore saying the others overhype. To me he's saying Goff played well but that he expected to see more, which is all about JC's expectations and not the reality.
I personally just think that JC doesn't realize that McVay is stepping up the offenses which is not the same as expecting the qb to be automatically transcendent as if nothing else were different.
