It may be true but Mack signing sets a bar. Starting to get the feeling that it doesn’t matter and that many fans are going to have to sit down for a moment when they hear the contract numbers. It will be interesting and I hope not a distraction. I wonder how many in the “pay the man” camp will have an issue with the contract.
Well I can only tell you how I feel. I will be fine with the contract numbers and have been predicting them all along. I will only be surprised if it's closer to 20 M than to 24 M. My argument has been, those are predictable numbers. The market dictates those numbers.
And the Rams can handle it under the cap. Signing Donald at those numbers and Goff at his numbers still allows them to sign 5-6 more high contract guys. That's more or less in keeping with the analysis which says teams spend 60% of their cap on 10 guys (though I think it's actually closer to 8-10).
This is how I see it. It's the kind of player he is. No interior lineman last year faced multiple (ie 2 or more) blockers more than Donald. Yet he also led the entire league in qb pressures. And this is at a time when, analysts have shown, the interior rush is more valuable than ever. You only see that a mere couple of times in a lifetime. And IMO when you have it you sign it.
