I agree with you and zn that it doesn't make sense. They should of known what he would cost.
However, since the Suh and Von Miller contracts, which were both an eternity ago in NFL years, no contracts have even approached $20M. Maybe league-wide, teams really did think those contracts were out of line.
The article made a good point about the stagnation in the top of the market for none QBs. Maybe teams are very reluctant to pay none QBs that type of money.
I would assume, with the inflation of the salary cap, that teams would automatically know and be fine with top salaries rising in proportion. But when you see league-wide stagnation, it's got to mean something.
And yeah, if Donald is demanding say $24M, maybe that plus amount is hard to swallow.
