: Better to go with reality than overwrought emotion.
If the Rams are going to lose Donald, it won't be for at least 3 years.
And, as has been said over and over, for now the Rams hold all the cards.
I agree about reality. Then...it depends on which you think is the reality and which position is the overwrought emotion.
Donald can force a trade.
If it were me and I thought the team was going to hold me hostage to a bad rookie contract compounded with lowball tag numbers, that's what I would do. Is that emotion or intelligent self-interest based on reality? I think it's the latter.
Rams would face getting nothing for him.
Oh and a reminder. Donald is not the only player to enter into negotiations for an extension after year 3, which is a CBA guaranteed right for first rounders.
He is however the only one so far not to receive an extension.
At a certain point, there's a risk to the Rams looking bad. To their own players among others. It's bad business.
You conveniently ignore the possibility that AD and his pos agent are making poison pill demands in addition to the money, zn.
It’s unfair for a player to hold a team hostage with such tactics and then the fans blame the team for “bad business” practices.
As to the other players thinking this makes the Rams look bad? I think the other players and their agents are smarter than that.
The cap ceiling vs player contracts is a zero sum game. The more that one player receives, the less remains for everybody else.
The Rams want to have enough cap room for as many of their top players as possible.

Heck, maybe even Suh?
This contract issue is just a bit more complicated than “just pay the man” as some (not you) have said. Sorta like a checkers vs chess thing.
