McVay has stated many times that he didn't really give TA a chance b/c he was injured when the team inserted his offense. By the time he came back it was too late; they had already moved on. Snead corroborated this.
It had nothing to do with learning the playbook. That is if we want to go by the evidence before us in the form of McVay's and Snead's words.
No one is blaming McVay for Austin's shortcomings. Austin has shortcomings and those are all on him but that has little to do with the fact that McVay chose to move on when Austin's injury persisted.
