ZN, I believe it is on Tavon because he missed all the camps, and he didn't know the playbook or what to do.
Yes, Tavon is to blame for his injury. Like all players are (sounds hard, talk to Brady boy)...Why couldn't Tavon come to camp and just run patterns??...and not catch anything...ya, ya, I know ,blah blah blah, lol, but it cost him his career.
Well, that is my take, and I am not deviating from it. McVay is a wizard, if Tavon was ready to do anything
professional, McVay would have done something. Tavon was not dependable in his route running.
I am willing to be wrong, because Tavon works hard and he was tough......so tell me...
Depends on what you mean by "it was Tavon."
1. Some people mean he was just simply not capable of anything more than what McV gave him to do. I don't accept that view because as I said, from 2014-16 he did do more things in the passing game. Not at the level of a pure receiver but still, enough to mix in with his running plays and gadgets.
2. If you mean he never really caught up with the McV offense and so was limited in that way in 2017, I agree...that was probably a factor. But that's not the same as saying he could never do those plays--he was just not up to speed on the offense in 2017.
It's general capability as a player v. specific knowledge of a specific offense, which are 2 different things.
BUT none of this either way has anything to do with McV's "wizardry." I was saying last spring before the season even started that McV may not be INTERESTED in using Tavon to Tavon's full capability. So the "McV is a wizard" thing has nothing to do with it. If he was not interested in altering his system to incorporate all the things Tavon could do, then, he wasn't interested (which yes I think is a big part of all this). And since McV did not draft Tavon there's no particular reason he should be interested. And when I was saying that LAST SPRING I was also saying it wasn't a complaint---McV just plain might not be interested.
It's a false dichotomy---this is not "is McV smart v. can Tavon play."
Yeah Tavon can do more in the passing game, we saw it. He did it. It's on record.
McV not being interested has nothing to do with his competence. That's not even remotely an issue.
But it's just as false to say TA couldn't do things because in fact he DID do them---regularly--in the years from 2014 to 2016.
