There are a lot of lists out there. There seems to be more QBs considered franchise QBs than ever. Here's a list of QB's that are generally considered to be franchise QBs. Dalton seems to be considered the dividing point for franchise QBs. Does anyone think any of these guys aren't franchise QBs or is there someone missing from this list of 21 QBs?
Rodgers
Brady
Brees
Wentz
Roethlisberger
Wilson
Ryan
Luck
Stafford
Newton
Rivers
Garoppolo
Cousins
Watson
Carr
Smith
Prescott
Winston
Goff
Mariota
Dalton
I think the list below is very unproven or average and does not deserve Franchise QB status
Garoppolo: Makes a bunch of money but what has he proven? Not even a season worth of production. Nice older prospect
Watson: He was great then go hurt. Is he a Bradford? Give me a full season of production and he makes the list.
Carr: Had 1 good season then got hurt and has not really stood out since. I still have my questions
Smith: He is okay but do you consider him a franchise QB
Prescott: 1 good season and 1 mediocre season with a great supporting cast. Call me a doubter
Winston: Hear all the raves but where is the production. Has a decent supporting cast.
Mariota: Great natural talent but gets hurt and his production is limited
Dalton: He is a few steps below Cousins and I while I have Cousins on the Franchise list I think he is iffy.
Now there seems to be a lot of doubters on Goff but he had a great season and I don't think he gets enough credit.
I think you are mixing up elite and franchise as concepts.
All you need to be a franchise qb is a consistent enough performer to keep starting and the team has no intention of replacing you.
It's a basic concept.
Ranking them is a different issue.
