I believe 20 million for a guy two years out is incredibly generous for obvious reasons.

Remember this has nothing to do with how we "feel" or how we personally respond to contracts or players or what we think they're "worth."
It's the market. The NFL 2nd contract market goes up. It just does. If you don't keep pace with that you're lowballing.
So this is now 4 years after Suh's 19 M deal and Donald is better than Suh anyway.
Regardless how you feel personally about a 20 M deal, the market says contracts go up annually. That's why for example this year WRs up for 2nd contracts were getting something in the 16 M range, when in 2017 it was in the 13-14 M range.
If in 2018 you offered a serious starting caliber WR up for his 2nd contract the same amount WRs were getting in 2015, they wouldn't even return your call. That's basically an insult.
