used a high pick on a "developmental" player. I believe the reason there are so many excuses for him is that people want to hope the pick was right...like Greg Robinson...you're seeing a failed pick but people just want to believe it's just about time required for development. By the time Everett develops, he'll be a free agent. Dumb pick by Snead...it was like Brian Quick part II. Littleton flashed. Ebukam flashed. Kupp and Johnson more than flashed. I'm thinking the only flashing Everett did was in the locker room coming out of the shower!
I don't recall any post draft reviews raving about this pick. He came out of a small school...he was raw...and frankly not that big if your looking for a big red zone target.
I have little hope for this guy. Travis Kelce was drafted in round 3 and had 67 receptions in his first year...there is hope that we can find a TE somewhere in this draft.
McVay was just as responsible as Snead for the Everett selection last year, as well as the Kupp selection.
During the Fisher regime, Fisher was just as if not more responsible for Quick and Robinson, also throw in Boudreau for Robinson as well.
So far since Snead has come on board , It always has been and always will be a collaborative effort selecting draft picks. Snead’s hands definitely aren’t as tied as they were with Fisher which is great, particularly when we are speaking of the offensive side of the ball. It’s new new day and age for GM’s. Most just don’t run the show anymore.
Even during the Devaney and Spags regime, it was common knowledge that Josh McDaniels wanted Lance Kendricks in round 2 and he had a huge influence on that selection.
Yes I do think teams tend to reach for need positions at times and it’s not always the best course of action but it’s not just the Rams. Every team is going to make mistakes in that manner.
Regarding Everett, pre-draft I didn’t want him as a round 2 pick because of how raw he was and thought it was a reach, but I also understand the TE position I’d one of the hardest to develop so there is defitely still hope for him, we will see what happens. In a couple years he could be a stud or out of the league.
