Rampage2K-
I know a lot of people want to fire Snead still to this day for this pick.... and yes, in hindsight it was a horrible pick, but at the time it was a good pick and not one person in the media shook their head at that pick. Mayock raved about him "Orlando Pace"
Anyone who is after a GM because of one miss just lacks any seriously real sense of perspective.
Same draft they got the only elite DT since Warren Sapp.
Notice it wasn't that hard to replace GR. Well there is no other AD.
Meanwhile, 2 important things.
1. It was starting in 2013-14 that first round OL started to become a lot iffier than they had been. GR is not the only bust or disappointment in those years and since.
2. Snead's overall hit percentage is good, regardless of any other consideration.
...
I remember hoping that the Rams would be able to take AD. I also wanted them to draft Mack because I thought he would be great, and that he could be the heir apparent to Quinn. I was worried about Gslob because of that other bust LT that the Rams picked many years ago; I forget his name. Then again, both of those chumps are quite forgettable.
Jason Smith.
Though Smith wasn't the impossible to coach mess GR was. He fit okay at ROT. What took Smith out of the game was different. He had a severe neck injury in a game and had to be gurneyed off the field. It got to him, and he doubted his commitment to football after that.
I like the idea of Mack and Donald on paper, but at this point, if they actually had both, there's a good chance they could not KEEP both. I don;t know how they could have signed Mack AND Donald AND Goff AND Cooks and have much room for anything else. With just AD, JG, and BC, that ought to leave room for around 5-6 other top contracts. Add Mack to that and it probably reduces to around 3-4 other guys. Which I suppose can be done, but but it's pushing it. I know this is a talent v. cap space argument and those are speculative, but it's a thought.
In terms of how LOT worked out, Whitworth replaces GR at a bit less money than a 5th year option would have cost had GR worked out. And in terms of alternatives, I like the idea of Whitworth more than Matthews---the over the top leadership. Right now Whitworth costs less than Matthews because of the 5th year option thing---Matthews comes in at about 2 M more right now.
