At the very least, he should be ready for the start of the season. That’s the expectation McVay is operating under

Greg Zuerlein was arguably the best kicker in football last season before suffering a back injury that forced him to miss the final two games of 2017. He made 38 of his 40 field goal tries, was 44-for-46 on extra point attempts and had a long of 56 yards.

It’s why he was named a first-team All-Pro despite playing only 14 games. However, as good as he was last season, there are a few people concerned about his health heading into 2018. Sean McVay said back in January that the Rams expect him back for the start of the season, but he provided another update on Monday.

“Greg’s making great progress. He’s making good progress. We feel good about where he’s at and kind of just taking that a day at a time,” McVay said.

Zuerlein underwent a procedure on his back in December, but the recovery timeline is unclear. He was in attendance for the start of offseason workouts on Monday, but his involvement was also unknown.

At the very least, he should be ready for the start of the season. That’s the expectation McVay is operating under, and if he’s healthy for training camp, that’ll be a big plus. His physical activity at this point in the offseason isn’t all that important, given the fact that he’s just four months removed from the surgery.
