Makes perfect sense if everyone is sure it's completely about the business side and nothing else. As usual, I don't have enough facts to say it is or not - which is often the case with we fans living in the "perception zone"
I'm not quite sure what "leverage" he would be giving up by merely showing up and working out with the team. He is still the best of the best and will continue to command a contract that supports it.

The Rams wouldn't expect a player to give up leverage in a contract negotiation under a "We not me" rationale just like they wouldn't give up their leverage in a business transaction on the basis of that slogan.
That slogan is about the on-field product.
