I look at Joyner now as the canary in the coal mine. If he doesn't sign a long term contract by the deadline (I believe 7/15), then I believe we will have shown, essentially that our long term strategy in terms of player retention is seriously flawed. Ditto Cooks.
I'm not convinced yet that Joyner is part of the long term plan.
Cooks not signing would be more cause for concern IMO b/c it was reported they only gave up the amount they did b/c he was intended to be part of the long term future.
I've never really questioned their long term strategy; I have been highly skeptical of their ability to execute the strategy.
The problem as I see is, the new regime doesn't negotiate the contracts.
