The 1st round pick wouldn't have nearly the chance to get an impact WR.
And it's pretty clear now that McVay MUST have that deep threat.
Peter King recently posted a graphic (no link and no time to look) showing the WR's drafted in the 1st round over the past three years. There have been 13 of them and 12 of them are busts or near busts. Only Amari Cooper has been great.
Why have TWO passing teams given up on him already?
He's only 24 and on his third team already, why?
I liked Cooks coming out, but after seeing how you defend him in the NFL he lost value for ME.
With NE as well, because I'm pretty sure I know why they traded him.
Limited tree and ....Soft!
about Watkins? Just saying...or..err...asking.
Yeah Buffalo one of the dreadge organizations in the NFL let go of Watkins, Woods and Goodwin...how does that look now?
IF Watkins is on the field in KC he will absolutely tear it up!!!
Bank it.
Here's the thing LA, I don't break film down like some do here (though I enjoy their posts as I do yours). But I do know that McVay actually got to work with and coach Watkins for a year, and I know that he and his staff look at film too. I truly believe that if McVay & Co. believed that Watkins was as valuable and as talented as you and some others do, he would still be a RAM. For whatever reason or reasons they did not believe Watkins was a fit. Additionally, I don't think our current organization, if they thought letting Watkins go was a mistake (and again, I don't believe they did or do), I don't think they would let go of a 1st round pick for a soft 2 trick pony just to try and make up for it. IMHO, they truly believe Cooks will work extremely well in their system and that Watkins did not, would not...these were all well thought and planned decisions (they had plenty of time to consider Watkins and have been talking to NE for a month about Cooks).
Its been reported here and by McVay himslef that he tried hard to get Sammy resigned.
I posted that Sammy would remain a Ram because I knew they were close and that McVay was fighting for him, but KC came in and blew their socks off which is what I posted.
So they wanted to retain him but had a number.
They watched tape on AO too before they resigned him...but WE know what happened, he didn't fit.
They franchised Trumaine again even though they had doubts about whether or not he fit.
So they make mistakes too.
Everyone makes mistakes no doubt...But to be fair, Son of Bum may have had tape on AO/Tru....but he DIDN'T have a year of coaching and seeing them daily in practice like the McVay did with Sammy.
I'm not the slightest bit concerned about Cooks or his ability/talent...I AM concerned with what they gave up to get him considering other needs/cap.
I'm still far from sold on Goff, and whether or not he has the ability to "get the most" out of his weapons beyond his 1st/2nd read or not needing the play calling tailored to "1/2 the field"....performing against the better defenses/2 minute drill.
Also more concerned with getting Donald inked, and again the cap situation now AND going forward (which would be even worse had we extended OR tagged Watkins) with little to no premium draft capital.
The Oline...Sully and to his left are long in the tooth, can Saffold be healthy 3 years in a row etc..? To the right of center, I have little to no faith in...not a fan of either Hav or Brown...AT ALL.
LB's..?
Edge rushers..?
It's going to be interesting for sure....man <bites nails>.
And I agree 100% with you on the qb.
Not there either.
Agree with pretty much all of your takes as well now that I look....lol
Hopefully we are pleasantly surprised on how some of this unfolds.
When it comes to the cap....Donald is the biggest and #1 NEED/worry...agreed I think. They need to GET HIM EXTENDED so we can use the tag with Gurley IMO, which SHOULD allow, if they quit going batcrap with the pick trading etc. to keep/sign/extend Joyner next year (as he sees what S are getting this year hopefully) and Peters down the road as well.
Then the only worry is Goff...which if he is lights out...it likely means we "cashed in" during this "window" and will REALLY be a "destination stop" for guys looking to WIN and should help with signings...and then he will get big his $$$....If he isn't lights out....he won't be worth/getting that 30+ mill and there is a"different" problem.
The NFL REALLY needs to do something like the NBA does with "Birds rights"...but allow for 2 of them...with the dynamics and injury risks etc. in this league...am I crazy...?
