What if the Rams signed Suh to say a 4 year $50 mil deal and then traded AD? Perhaps after 2018?
That would help keep the Rams in better cap shape. I'm not really sure the Rams will ever be able to keep AD anyway. And I suspect the Rams could get a 1st and 2nd round pick for him to keep replenishing.
It's an eerie thing to see, that we Rams fans are so unused to talent, both before and after the GSOT exception, that when they get some, all we can think of is how to get rid of it.
AD is not going to be the cap burden some fear for the simple reason that AD is worth any other 2 less "generational" level defenders. So instead of 10 players in your top 60% you have 9, but 9 with the same effect as 10.
Plus he worked his tail off doing things the right way and, according to the swap AD for Suh theory, the Rams message to that is no, we're going to replace you with an older guy more past his prime who was probably let go from Miami at least partly because of "culture" issues?

NFL Rumors: Dolphins To Release Ndamukong Suh As Part Of ‘Culture Change’[
nesn.com]
the move is part of a “culture change” in Miami, the latest in a growing line of big-name departures from the Dolphins. The team traded running back Jay Ajayi during the 2017 season, and just last week agreed to a trade sending wide receiver Jarvis Landry to the Cleveland Browns.
