I'm not a PFF groupie. I take their analytics with a grain of salt. As ALL analytics should be taken.
They are numbers, often without sufficient context.
But, they are what they are. And PFF has designed a weighted system to help fans sort through player performance and value.
I really doubt NFL executives use it because they have their own in-house analytical data. But of course, we as fans are hardly privy to any NFL team's player performance and value data and evaluations.
But anyone who has watched NFL football for any time knows that there are some pretty big egos inside those NFL team offices and often those guys believe that only they know how to judge a player. I remember when Mel Kiper Jr. came onto the scene and was widely panned by a few NFL GMs and HCs. I don't know, but I doubt Kiper seriously thought NFL executives would use his criteria to help draft players. Rather it was for public consumption. In fact, seeing the huge PR event the draft has become, they ought to thank Mel Kiper for taking the draft out of the NFL inner chambers and into the national spot light.
PFF is promoting fan interest in the NFL from a different angle. And they have come up with a system that a fan can add to his collection if they so desire it. Is the system the be all, end all? Is it perfect? Does it tell the whole story? Does it stand above the rest? Of course not. It's just another one.
But to call it "fake"? To demean it as phony and having no credibility? As though it's a scam? I think that's a bit overboard.
