This has been something on my mind for a couple of years ever since the move to LA: The team lacks great beat reporters (maybe because these reporters are new to their beats).
Don't get me wrong. Those covering the team full-time do an adequate job analyzing announcements from the team and other publicly available information. (As do members of this board.) But rarely do the Rams beat reporters break news about what the team is up to.
For example, it's astonishing to me there hasn't been scoops about Aaron Donald's contract negotiations, which is surely one of the more important situations in the league. Certainly, this is partly attributable to management and AD's agents avoiding a public negotiation, but nevertheless, the lack of reporting is notable given the leaks we see elsewhere in the NFL.
Or take the fact that a Bengals blog broke news yesterday that the Rams were in on Taylor Eiffert before he re-signed. Isn't this the sort of thing that Rams beat reporters should be breaking?
Not looking to attack any of these reporters as they face impediments and pressures and are good people with often solid analysis.
But I mention this because I think the seeming lack of free agent activity on the Rams front could be misinterpreted. It's hard to gauge activity when we are only hearing about the end results.
