If he is going to make it in the NFL, it would seem that he would have to get lucky enough to find a team that can find a use for him.
I doubt he wants to spend the rest of his career getting the ball a few times a game. At the same time I don't know if there is a place for him. Seems like the Rams were on the cusp of something with him a few years ago. He didn't fit in very well with the scheme last year. I don't know if that will change with a a year to prep... and I mean McVay... Or it could be that Austin finds a way to be more involved in McCoy's offense by improving on the things that he wasn't doing well enough...
My guess is he will be traded. And the scenario that plays out in my head is:
Snead- We can't trade you with that salary and you will most likely not have a role in the offense next year. Restructure and you might be able to get traded to a team that will give you a shot. Only plausible explanation i can think of... Either that or Austin is all about WE and very little about me. But it still doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Seems like it is almost only a move that will make him more easy to trade. It also gives him a bit of a guaranteed salary so the team he goes to has to pay him maybe a little more than they would like... but its a prove it deal so maybe some team takes the plunge.
Anyway, I'd be very surprised to see him back with the Rams... and a bit disappointed since I am a fan of his. He seems to have the skills to be very special and I would like to see that actually happen for the guy... if its possible. IDK.
