A little background on my thought process...
Teams that don't do well in the red zone aren't in many championship games.
Teams that score on mostly on big plays usually run into trouble in playoffs because other good teams understand they score on big plays. And since they are good teams, they have a way of taking away the big play.
There is something call the Red Zone channel. Every week statistics are discussed about a team's success or lack of success in the red zone. That leads me to believe that red zone proficiency is important...not from a FG perspective...but a TD perspective. Zeurlein had a great year in part because we were incapable of finishing drives.
The best teams tend to be proficient in the red zone scoring TDs.
So...we can score all year long on big plays...but when it comes to crunch time at the end of the game or in the playoffs, you need to be proficient in the red zone.
We were not good in the red zone, although we scored on a lot of big plays.
