I am not a fan of the 3-4, in any of it's manifestations. I can tolerate it, it can work - no doubt about that, and it grates on me.
I'm also somewhat allergic to the word 'scheme'... which is fault on my part, I admit... BUT... when that word comes up, especially these days, it seems to me to equate with the X's and O's winning the games and not the players themselves, whomever they may be. Obviously one needs a 'scheme', and players that best fit into that scheme, but football, and football players, are an imperfect science... and it seems to me that in today's game 'scheme' takes precedence over 'players' which I think is a mistake... it's a combo, and the best coaches acknowledge and adjust for that.
