The franchise tag is a last ditch strategy. I think we can all agree on that much.
But let’s not forget that these negotiations are a 2 way street. IOW, it’s necessary for AD to meet the Rams halfway.
That would mean that deal breaking “opt out” type provisions are not included, for openers.
Something in the neighborhood of $20 million per seems fair to me. Give him a ton of G-jack while they’re at it. He would be set for life.
As to hurting his feelings by continuing difficult negotiations or even resorting to the tag for 2-3 years? Please...
Both sides are big boys and this is the nature of things in our salary cap world. If AD and his pos agent give the Rams no choice, then so be it.
Worst case scenario is that the Rams get stellar play from AD through the ‘21 season (3 tags) and AD become a multimillionaire in the process. That’s 8 straight All Pro season’s from AD for the Rams and then AD can finally get his humongous second contract. Pretty danged nice “worst case” scenario, huh?
