I think after some more study he will move up but I have some concerns.
First, he is more athletic then you would think by looking at him. 2nd he stays low out of his stance and uses that leverage to push OL into the backfield. He has a nice swim move and does have a decent motor. When he uses a punch, OGs and OCs are in serious trouble. That brings me to an issue I have with him. He doesn't use his hands as well as I would like to see. He lets OL get into his body, which is more of an issue in the pros. He also looks like he needs to shed some of that weight from around his middle and play closer to 300 lbs.
All that said, I agree with you if he can keep his weight under control and develop better hand usage/ a more consistent punch, he will be a steal somewhere.
I do love the VT defensers in this years draft. Where do you see Trumaine Edmunds best positional fit being?
He would be my rock in the middle. One of the few college LBs that can ACTUALLY stack and shed blockers. That said, keep him clean and runs tackle to tackle will end with him. He’s a fundamentally sound tackling machine with lots of thump. Certainly not a two down thumper though, he’s balanced and fluid in coverage with an understanding of routes.
All that said, I’d take Roquan Smith over him because his range is so freakish.
On Settle, he should’ve stayed in school and worked on rounding his game out....while thinning his frame. I think when the baby fat comes off and the muscle maturity starts kicking in I see him settling (no pun) in around 325-330. He’s soft but he’s also a naturally huge man. I think his upside has some project to it but his floor is still pocket pushing fireplug that shows one gap explosion.
