Yeah, I agree. He's a great talent and can be an excellent contributor. But if they both play all 16 games next year I can see both Woods and Kupp surpassing 1,000 yards. And like you I think McVay will want to get more from the TEs. 41 catches is not what he wants TEs to produce in this offense... My guess is his #1 developmental priority on offense in OTAs and camp is Everett.
But I think part of it is also there is more room for this offense to throw next year. Rams QBs combined for 514 attempts while the previous two years in DC Kirk Cousins had 543 and 606 attempts. Several blowouts allowed them to dial back late in several games. They just might throw 30-40 more times next year vs. 2017.
I am a believer that Watkins' presence did and would open up a lot for the offense as a whole, both in the passing and running games. And maybe they feel like Josh Reynolds can be much more in year 2. Who knows. But Goff is not a finished product and for the next couple seasons I think it's important to keep the skill talent around him extremely high vs. later in his career when maybe as a QB he can carry the offense. I would love to see Watkins here at least one more year, ideally two.
