I have always bashed Snead, as I do not think he has a clue in talent evaluation. What I do think he is good at is making trades. However, there are too many draft mistakes to overlook. Quick, Tavon, GRob, Pead, etc....there were too many misses on really high picks. Also, Rams gave up a 2nd rd pick they could not afford to trade for Tavon. Could have taken Hopkins who we all heard Rams loved. Sure, there were some good ones like Brokers, Joyner, Gurley and JJ, and Donald, but I cannot overlook all the high picks that were wasted on busts. With the plethora of picks Rams had from the Washington trade, the rebuild should not have taken as long as it did. I also feel our first pick last year in Everett was a reach for a position of need which is always a bad idea. Thankfully, Kupp and Johnson have made up for the pick. Personally, I feel McVay was responsible for identifying guys like Whitworth and Sullivan, while Phillips brought K Webster. Snead is and always has been just along for the ride. The dude is charmed, that is for sure. He shoulda been canned with Fisher.
I know I know Donald and Gurley, Offensive & Defensive players of the year. I just cannot give Snead credit for grabbing Donald after he fell 5-10 slots further than expected. I think the Gurley pick was mostly just to get some attention. I was praying Rams draft him, and they did, that was my favorite pick by Snead, though Im sure it was a collaborative Snead/Fisher decision.
Perhaps Snead's biggest miss was rejecting Buffalo's generous trade offer to move up to take Sammy Watkins a few years ago. They offered a one and a two if i remember correctly. We took GRob, while Lewan, ODB, Martin, Donald and CJ Mosley were available at that slot.
go rams.
