I don't think he should be exclusively outside. As I said before the season started, I believe he should be a "weapon as opposed to having a designated spot". Situational positioning is right in his skill set.
Line him up wherever the scheme calls for. Use him on delayed blitzes inside. Use him as a layered outside rusher. Use him inside on forward plays.
AO is a playmaker and plays like a play maker. Just send him forwards and sideways. This is why I say that they need a vocal guy who can diagnose quickly is key. It puts everyone, including AO in a position to succeed.
Much of that happens now. He is all over the place and does blitz plenty, even from the outside, but in a way that a back is blocking him.
If he were ever in Barwin or Quinn's position he'd be blocked by a tackle and we lose, every time. If AO rushed and were on a back, he'd have a chance to win
To me the obvious solution would play him at Barron's spot. That is a stacked WILL spot, in a 3-4...it's ideal for him.
