It seems that when there is at least some playoff experience, the results are closer to 50-50, with a slight edge to the more experienced team.
However, just narrowing it to the zero-experience teams, which is where the Rams are at, those results are 4-6 over the last ten years. Closer to 50-50 again? Maybe. I'd rather be on the other end of that equation.
EDIT: Bottom line, zero-experience teams don't get a lot of chances in the playoffs (fewer than you might think given the way "parity" is touted). They lose more than they win by at least a little. That said, it certainly isn't hopeless.
