I preferred Goff to Wentz for 2 reasons:
1. Goff was 2 years younger and played more football.
2. Wentz only played 1 full year of college ball at N.Dakota St. He got hurt and I feared that he was injury prone.
Well, we saw what happened last week. Wentz has now only played 2 full seasons in 5 years. Who knows if he will ever stay healthy long term. He cant continue playing like he does, but he may not be able to help himself, that may be just in his DNA.
Goff was so bad last year. If he make the same amount of improvement next year, that he did this year, hes gonna be a top 5 QB. He's still only 23. When Russell Wilson was 23 he was still in college.
And I remember it well Maxie and you know I preferred Wentz because he was bigger, stronger, faster (just as smart) and came from a pro style offense, but you are correct that he was somewhat injury prone because of running and taking on defenders. You might be be absolutely right as Wentz, who was on his way to being MVP, might not be able to contain himself, but in the end I believe both will be extremely good Quarterbacks, if not great and one can only hope that Goff ends up with more rings.
I don't know what will happen with these two QBs, den, no one does. For me, it was always about risk-reward. I just didn't like the idea of spending the first pick in the draft on the level of risk that I thought Wentz was.
Just think back to 2012. Luck and RG3 were considered the best 1-2 QB picks ever. How's that working out? RG3 is out of the league and who knows about Lucks future now. We just don't know about these young QBs. Winston and Mariota? Who knows? They don't look so great right now, but that could change next year. They are just too young to say for sure. But my money is on Winston never being a star. I have faith in a certain poster on this board who said about Winston, "That boy a star." Thats good enough for me to believe Winston is an idiot who will never be very good.
One thing I feel very strongly about is that McVay will get the most out of Goff. And we have just seen the tip of the iceberg with him.
